NYC→ CA – A New Adventure

One week ago I embarked on a new but familiar adventure. A homecoming of sorts, a sabbatical in other ways I have returned to my Northern California homeland for now, with the end of my time here undetermined. There were many reasons to come, some family things being the main one but my pursuit of other goals and passions being another. I pursued my career in fashion intensely for the past six and a half years in New York City. I got further than I ever thought and just as far as I thought at the same time. I could have stayed and continued on the path I was on, a successful path one that would have continued to lead to many opportunities but it no longer seemed like the sustainable way to live life. I let my creative pursuits fall to the wayside replacing that space with the stress of living in New York City.

I almost forgot my desire to follow a creative path until I decided to attend Local Milk’s workshop/ retreat in Southern Japan last spring. I was reinvigorated and re-inspired to pursue my life long love of photography. The spark remained once I returned to NY but it was put on the back burner with the everyday getting in the way again. I continued on, changing jobs on my fashion career path to a fantastic one, truly the best job I had but after some time I was still feeling unhappy and unsatisfied. When the opportunity arose to return to my native home and be support for my family while making a go of pursing my goals in photography I decided to go for it. In my life so far the great risks have sowed great rewards so it only feels appropriate to take a leap again. I plan to keep on traveling, even more if possible, and be back in NYC often as it is still is a home of sorts for me but for now it feels nice to be based back in my homeland of Northern California.
